Examine Nietzsche?S Statement in the Birth of Tragedy That It Is Only as an „Aesthetic Phenomenon? That Existence Can Be „Justified? to Eternity.

Look at Nietzsche’s explanation in The Birth of Tragedy that it is just as a ‘Aesthetic Phenomenon’ that presence can be ‘justified’ to time everlasting. As indicated by the characteristics of ‘eternity’ and ‘existence’ that Nietzsche and Schopenhauer recommend; it is by definition that something must be supported in the exceptional world: the universe of ‘existence’. Despite the fact that this announcement portrays presence advocating itself to time everlasting, The Birth of Tragedy will in general represent the backwards: endlessness supporting itself showing up through presence. Anyway the development between the conditions of the ‘physical’ and ‘virtual’ isn't directional in the observationally spatiotemporal way that Schopenhauer takes on. In contrast to visionary thoughts, what Nietzsche portrays is a clear duality conceived in the combination of the brains twofold reality that has information and recognition just of presence. Stylish marvel offers us â€Å"delight in semblance† and all the while offers a more noteworthy, otherworldly take pleasure in â€Å"the devastation of the noticeable universe of semblance† (BT: 24). The necessity that a marvel must be ‘aesthetic’ is widespread as in there is no prerequisite concerning what a ‘aesthetic’ thing is. Evidently it tends to be anything incredible â€Å"even the appalling and discordant is an aesthetic game which the will, in the interminable completion of its joy, plays with itself. † (BT:24) Clearly there are degrees of ‘aesthetic’ quality that render more pleasure, yet the enjoyment is similarly feasible in the translation for what it's worth in the ‘phenomenon’ that is going about as a trigger. Perhaps it is all the more suitably envisioned that ‘eternity’ legitimizes itself in the amazing: on the grounds that the ‘justification’ happens when an item stirs a feeling of the ‘eternal’, so it is actually a matter of enticement, and how adequately this ‘aesthetic phenomenon’ permits the noumenal to push itself upon the perceiver. However, to state that this happens entirely by virtue of how ‘aesthetic’ the marvel is, is disregard how effectively the perceiver is tempted, or how he sees all together. Unmistakably various individuals discover excellence in various things. It is additionally certain that some may discover excellence in nothing, similarly as with contemplation. Yet, that brings into question whether we can truly have a ‘nothing’ in human experience, for even the most disengaged and separated human experience can't be completely fair to the universe of experience. The point notwithstanding; is that in spite of the fact that ‘aesthetic phenomenon’ is a need; it is the receptiveness and creative mind of the perceiver that permits the item to legitimize presence to the interminable. For excellence can exist in all things, however just every so often do we see magnificence to such high power that it stirs a conspicuous sentiment of the ‘eternal’. For Nietzsche, craftsmanship is an all the more impressive type of ‘aesthetic phenomenon’, than normally happening magnificence; the human is progressively acquainted with workmanship, frequently in light of the fact that it relates more to characteristics in the domain of human experience, be it situational or enthusiastic. This recognition baits the perceiver into a more noteworthy level of conviction, going about as an impetus to the disintegration of self character, as they all the more effectively overlook oneself, and become overpowered by the ‘will’. Nietzsche places ‘attic tragedy’ at the pinnacle of this procedure, as he makes reference to the crowd become the play, and the mix of two separate artistic expressions permits the introduction of another less genuinely fixated, and all the more charming show-stopper. The degree, to which the crowd can reproduce the second that the craftsman felt in making the piece, relies somewhat upon the artist’s capacity to transfigure the inclination into a ‘aesthetic phenomenon’, yet in addition on the audience’s capacity to sympathize (humanistic workmanship is increasingly viable). This ‘empathy’ or ‘mitleiden’, requires the destruction of the idea of the ‘individual’ and the ascent of the inborn early stage solidarity, all together for this unceasing power, that Schopenhauer, imprudently called the ‘will’, to surpass. It is on the grounds that workmanship is a propagation of the endless in a wonderful structure that Nietzsche accepts â€Å"we are a long way from really being the makers of that universe of art† (BT:5), the craftsman is just the arbiter of the unceasing, who takes part in reproduction. The world that workmanship ‘represents’ itself in is fair-minded to the world it originated from. The portrayal of the heavenly impregnating the humanly to bring forth an extraordinary ‘art’ produces a dualistic idea, that suggests an amazing quality from the noumenal into the wonderful: â€Å"the consistent advancement of workmanship is bound up with the duality of the Apolline and the Dionysiac similarly as multiplication relies upon there being two sexes†(BT:1) while a sexual conjunction includes two contrary energies, that are of a similar substance, Nietzsche is giving a connection the being and the everlasting. Be that as it may, it appears he puts this feeling of prevalence not in the perspectives themselves, fairly because of the trouble of getting away from common characteristics and the regular tendency to see what is past us as more prominent than what we are or have. He looks at our consciousness of our masterful centrality to that â€Å"which painted officers have of the fight portrayed on the equivalent canvas† (BT:5) repeating the inconceivability of survey imaginative creation from the two edges as player and onlooker the same. Inside the domain of presence, stylish joy effectively awakens that lethargic guiltlessness which gives receptiveness to the base soul. This intuition put to bed by our ‘view’ of the world that measures things; a cognizance we normally take on, as the sensational world turns out to be increasingly clear and through youth we build up another worldview that turns out to be less mindful of the subjective. This happening to the individual is described by understanding, and exchanged with blamelessness. For Nietzsche ‘Aesthetic phenomenon’ is important to make amuse which stirs our torpid self, by segregating us from our cognizant comprehension, and offering route to a higher pleasure. Nietzsche portrays this fight between the honest and experienced focal points as a pattern in the life of the person as well as in culture and its development. The obscure connection among Apollo and Dionysus matches the pattern in many societies to turn out to be increasingly similar to Apollo, and overlook their more out of control inborn partner whose attributes are frequently confused with indulgence. Emissions of the Dionysian culture are obvious in the Romantic time frame and during the ‘free love’ period in the 1960’s, both described by the utilization of medications to free one from the feeling of character. These periods, in contrast to the Greek time frame, remained developments as opposed to insurgencies, as the utilization of medications, not at all like the utilization of workmanship was harming to the affordable necessity for an upheaval. The Dionysiac’s dismissal for ordinary hindrances, for example, the sexual, emerge from the capacity to be private and feel for any being beyond what the Apollonian can would like to accomplish with even one. This is because of the Apollonian’s inability to ‘empathise’ as Schopenhauer would state, since they are excessively captivated with the show of their ‘will’ in its spoke to shape to see that the ‘will’ is all inclusive; â€Å"whenever this breakdown of the principium individuationis happens, we get a brief look at the substance of the Dionysiac† (BT:1) one who has no feeling of self. Nietzsche’s vision of Dionysian workmanship settle the inquiry Aristotle pose about the ‘tragic effect’: â€Å"Why is it that we deliberately subject ourselves to portrayals of the awful throughout everyday life? Schopenhauer called ‘tragedy’ the most noteworthy artistic expression in which we give up to the ‘feeling of the sublime’. As Nietzsche portrays, our shock is supplanted by a ‘metaphysical comfort’ where the horrible breaks down our vision of magnificence in the Apollonian structure; that is intended to ensure us and secure our drive to live, this ‘veil of Maya’ is expelled and â€Å"We truly are for a short second, the early stage being itself†. It is on the grounds that our Apollonian perspective on the world can't evacuate its innate qualities, that the grand is viewed by Schopenhauer as higher than excellence, and why for Nietzsche, the Dionysian angle is progressively essential. Islamic Poet Khalil Gibran clarifies â€Å"The cloak that mists your eyes will be lifted by the hands that wove it,† these thought bring up the issue with respect to whether ‘Aesthetic Phenomenon’ is defending the world to endlessness, or uncovering forever to the world, as ‘Aesthetic Delight’ impels the mediator, separating him from the remarkable. Nietzsche; contra Schopenhauer, accepts that the ‘terrible’ isn't without any assistance a higher type of craftsmanship, as the Apolline domain is required as the vehicle that people comprehend, to travel one into the interminable. Consequently for Nietzsche, ‘attic tragedy’ is the incomparable fine art that permits the Dionysian to impregnate the Apollonian; crossing the line among inebriation and dream, and being reawakened in the realm of the person. In contrast to music, which is a ‘mirror’ picture of the Dionysian, an immediate reflection from one world into the other, catastrophe enthralls the crowd with Apollonian fanciful pictures, through which the Dionysian theme â€Å"Discharges itself†, dissolving the clear polarity from a universe of similarity, and releasing the interminable. An Analysis of William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily - Literature Essay Samples

In William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily, first person narration is used in order to focus on Emily Grierson, a recluse who has captured the attention of the townspeople, and dictates the conversation, gossip, and action of the city. Faulkner uses a plethora of literary traits in order to help progress, convey, and develop this story. The opening sentence of the story immediately lets the reader know that â€Å"Miss Emily Grierson died.† Most of the events that follow depict her earlier life, and are directed by the reader’s knowledge of her death. This has a rather potent effect on the reader’s able to glean the pieces of her life together through the non-chronological arrangement of the story. Through this, Faulkner does not take a straight approach in presenting the story, but rather manipulates time in order to spread the story out through several decades, thus making this a story of development. The story is split into five sections, which are all a ser ies of flashbacks. It is only after the beginning of the fifth section that the reader learns that even the first is a flashback. The effect of this is rather potent, because the reader is unable to comprehend what time period the story is being told from. The inability to comprehend the specific time periods of each section is largely due in part to the narrator. The seemingly biased narrator is a member of the same town as Emily, deeming them as one of the gossiping community members. Faulkner is able to convey this through the repetition of words such as â€Å"we† and â€Å"our.† Because of this, Faulkner is able to create a character who is close to Emily Grierson, without dialogue. By using these keywords, the narrator is able to express their thoughts and opinions, as well as those of the townspeople. A stray from this can be seen towards the end of section five, when the narrator begins to refer to the townspeople as â€Å"they,† in reference to â€Å"the violent breaking down of the door.† This attempt at disassociation demonstrates that the narrator may not condone the actions of the townspeople, therefore giving insight to the opinions and mentality of the narrator. This subtle variation is quickly changed back to â€Å"we,† but serves as an example to make evident that the narrator showed some sort of care for Emily Grierson. The gossip that the narrator openly and actively participates in plays a large role in the progression of this story; the story itself is arguably told through gossip. Evidenced through quotes such as evidenced through the quote â€Å"we thought it would be the best thing.† In reference to the potential suicide of Emily Grierson. Characterization also plays a major role in the development of the story. Three main people are characterized in this story. Emily Grierson is seen through the eyes of the narrator. All descriptions and facts about Miss. Grierson are one sided, and might not fully represent the actual character of Emily Grierson. The character of the narrator is revealed from subtle hints laced in the story. Such as the switch between the words â€Å"we† and â€Å"they.† Although it is easy to overlook, the townspeople are developed through the references of the narrator. Largely impacted by words such as â€Å"we† and â€Å"they.† Although this story is rich in symbolism, the example that is most prevalent is the symbolism of the rose. In fact, it is even in the title. In this, Emily Grierson is compared to a rose, full of thorns, and trapped inside all day to wither away. Not only physically, but emotionally as well. It can be seen through the text that Miss. Grierson slowly begins to lose a grip on her sanity. Going as far as to murder her husband and sleep next to his body. This is evidenced when Faulkner writes that â€Å"we noticed that in the second pillow was the indentation of a head.† Through this, Faulkner is able to powerfully compare Emily Grierson to a rose. The background and setting of this story play a crucial role in the progression of the story. Utilization of words such as â€Å"negro† suggest that the story takes place in the south. Faulkners use of this specific setting and time period successfully give the reader background to the mentality of the characters of the story. This gives insight to the motivation, actions and mindset of the people living in the town. It is quite obvious that the townspeople are fascinated with Miss Grierson, and hold her on some sort of pedestal. Although the servant is the only person in direct contact with Miss Grierson, others remain curious about her life and death. So much so that they are willing to raid her house after hearing the news of her death. The townspeople are so inclined to be apart of her life that they take special actions such as calling her cousins when Emily was considering marriage with Homer Barron. In this manner, Faulkner is able to not only progress the characterizat ion of the townsfolk, but also assist demonstrating the impact that the setting and time period have on the story. In order to further progress the story, and build a connection with the reader, Faulkner utilizes foreshadowing to allude to the fact that Emily Grierson had been living with a dead man. The first example of foreshadowing is presented in part two of the story, when the house begins to take a grotesque smell â€Å"a short time after her sweetheart the one we believed would marry her had deserted her. Foreshadowing of Homer Barron’s death is again seen in part three, when Miss. Grierson purchases arsenic without giving a proper reason. This provides the reader with key insight to the progression of the story, and helps to develop the morbid mood of the story. The morbid and cynical mood of this story is due largely to the fact that this story deals with death, and the development of the story revolves around the death of Emily Grierson. However, the true mood of the story is not revealed until part five of the story, when the reader learns the truth behind the disappearance of Homer Barron. The mood is mostly dark and morbid up to this point, but after â€Å"the breaking down [of] the door† and reader learns that â€Å"the man himself lay in bed.† After this revelation, the mood begins to transgress into that of a more cynical and tragic. One of the major themes of this story is the inability of Emily Grierson to adapt and accept change. It is evidenced through her unwillingness to pay taxes that Miss Grierson is stuck in the time period that Colonel Sartoris is in charge. This is also evidenced through her refusal to have a mailbox when postal delivery is first instituted. The narrator expands on this by making the claim â€Å"thus she passed from generation to generation.† Through this, Faulkner is able to potently convey the deterioration of Miss Grierson. With the concoction of all of these elements, William Faulkner is able to progress the story in a manner that may not be chronological, but still manages to make logical sense. The impact that this has on the reader is quite powerfully, and without these devices, Faulkner would not have been able to smoothly capture the overall impact of this story.

Biography of Catherine Parr, Sixth Wife of Henry VIII

Catherine Parr (c. 1512–Sept. 5, 1548) was the sixth and last wife of Henry VIII, king of England. She was reluctant to marry him—he had had his second and fifth wives executed—but saying no to a proposal from the king could have had serious consequences. She eventually was married four times, the last to her true love. Fast Facts: Catherine Parr Known For: Sixth wife of Henry VIIIAlso Known As: Katherine  or  Katharine ParreBorn: c. 1512 in London, EnglandParents: Sir Thomas Parr, Maud GreeneDied: Sept. 5, 1548 in Gloucestershire, EnglandPublished Works: Prayers and Meditations, Lamentation of a SinnerSpouse(s): Edward Borough (or Burgh), John Neville, Henry VIII, Thomas SeymourChild: Mary Seymour Early Life Catherine Parr was born in London around 1512, the daughter of Sir Thomas Parr and Maud Greene. She was the eldest of three children. Her parents were courtiers during the early years of Henry VIIIs reign. Her father was knighted at the kings 1509 coronation, and her mother was a lady-in-waiting to Catherine of Aragon, his first queen, after whom Catherine was named. After her father died in 1517, Catherine was sent to live with her uncle, Sir William Parr, in Northamptonshire. There, she received a good education in Latin, Greek, modern languages, and theology. Marriages In 1529 Parr married Edward Borough (or Burgh), who died in 1533.  The next year she married John Neville, Lord Latimer, a second cousin once removed.  A Catholic, Neville was the target of Protestant rebels, who briefly held Parr and his two children hostage in 1536 to protest the kings religious policies. Neville died in 1543. Parr had been widowed twice when she became part of the household of Princess Mary, the kings daughter, and attracted Henrys attention. Parr wasnt the first woman to draw the kings eye. Henry had put aside his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, and split with the Church of Rome to divorce her, so that he could marry his second wife, Anne Boleyn, only to have her executed for treason for betraying him. He had lost his third wife, Jane Seymour, who died from complications after giving birth to his only legitimate son, who was to become Edward VI. He had divorced his fourth queen, Anne of Cleves, because he was not attracted to her. He noticed Parr not long after he had had his fifth wife, Catherine Howard, executed for deceiving him. Knowing his history and, apparently, already engaged to Jane Seymours brother Thomas, Parr was naturally reluctant to marry Henry. But she also was aware that refusing him could have serious consequences for herself and her family. Marriage to Henry Parr married King Henry VIII on July 12, 1543, four months after her second husband died. By all accounts she was a patient, loving, pious wife to him in his last years of illness, disillusion, and pain. As was typical in noble circles, Parr and Henry had a number of common ancestors and were third cousins once removed in two different ways. Parr helped reconcile Henry to his two daughters, Mary, daughter of Catherine of Aragon, and Elizabeth, daughter of Anne Boleyn. Under her influence, they were educated and restored to the succession. Parr also directed the education of her stepson, the future Edward VI, and advanced her stepchildren with Neville. Parr was sympathetic to the Protestant cause.  She could argue fine points of theology with Henry, occasionally infuriating him so much that he threatened her with execution. She probably tempered his persecution of Protestants under the Act of the Six Articles, which  reasserted some traditional Catholic doctrine into the English Church. Parr herself narrowly escaped being implicated with Anne Askew, a Protestant martyr. A 1545 warrant for her arrest was canceled when she and the king reconciled. Deaths Parr served as Henrys regent in 1544 when he was in France, but when Henry died in 1547, she was not made regent for his son Edward. Parr and her former love Thomas Seymour, who was Edwards uncle, did have some influence with Edward, including obtaining his permission to marry, which they received sometime after they had secretly married on April 4, 1547.  She also was granted permission to be called the Dowager Queen.  Henry had provided her with an allowance after his death. She also was the guardian of Princess Elizabeth after Henrys death, though this led to a scandal when rumors circulated about a relationship between Seymour and Elizabeth. Parr apparently was surprised to find herself pregnant for the first time in her fourth marriage. She gave birth to her only child, Mary Seymour, on Aug. 30, 1548, and died only a few days later, on Sept. 5, 1548, in Gloucestershire, England. The cause of death was puerperal fever, the same postpartum complication that had taken Jane Seymour. There were rumors that her husband had poisoned her, hoping to marry Princess Elizabeth. Thomas Seymour was executed for treason in 1549, a year after his wifes death.  Mary Seymour went to live with a close friend of Parr, but there are no records of her after her second birthday. Although there have been rumors, it isnt known whether she survived. Legacy Catherine Parr sacrificed her love for Seymour and married  Henry VIII, a display of loyalty to the crown that has maintained her good reputation throughout English history. She took good care of her stepchildren, providing education and culture, and strongly encouraged stepdaughter Elizabeths education, which helped to make the future  Queen Elizabeth  one of the most learned monarchs in English history. Additionally, her support of Protestantism encouraged the translation of religious works into English and furthered the cause of the  Protestant Reformation  in England. Parr left two devotional works that were published with her name after her death: Prayers and Meditations (1545) and Lamentation of a Sinner (1547). In 1782, Parrs coffin was found in a ruined chapel at Sudeley Castle, where she had lived with Seymour up to her death. In time, a proper tomb and memorial were built there. Sources Catherine Parr. Reflection Paper - 1322 Words

Throughout the course of the semester we have covered three different philosophers and how those three philosophers think differently. Our first philosopher was Friedrich Nietzsche. The second philosopher was Maurice Merleau-Ponty. The third and final philosopher was Martin Heidegger. This paper is going to consists of Martin Heidegger’s work and how he thinks his way through the journey of his life. â€Å"To think is to confine yourself to a single thought that one day stands still like a star in the world’s sky.† Before Martin Heidegger starts his letter, he inserts this quote. Heidegger is well known for this quote because it speaks to everyone reading it. He is telling his readers that thinking is just another form of being lazy, you have†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"Language is the house of Being.† This saying means that we view the language more as a tool, something always there for us to use. We tend to take advantage of the situation and think that we do not have to think through our problem. We live in our language and we live our lives determined by the langue. We think so far as we bring being to language. Heidegger strongly believes that we put action above thinking because we tend to act on our emotions and not our thoughts. He tries to get his readers to understand that thought is actually the most important. It correlates being and langu age together because we have to think through things before we act upon them. â€Å"What throws in projection is not man but Being itself, which sends man into the ek-sistence of Da-sein that is his essence. This destiny propriates as the clearing of Being – which it is. The clearing grants nearness to Being. In this nearness, in the clearing of the Da, man dwells as the ek-sisting one without yet being able properly to experience and take over this dwelling,† Heidegger says. Principles of Economics Structural

Question: 1. Explain why real GDP might not be an unreliable indicator of the standards of living. 2. Why does unemployment arise and what makes some unemployment unavoidable? 3. Consider the following statement: When the average level of prices of goods and services rise, inflation rises' Do you agree or disagree? Explain. 4.What is the aggregate demand (AD) curve and why does it slope downwards? Explain. 5. What is the long-run aggregate supply (LRAS) curve and why is it vertical? Why does the short-run aggregate supply curve slope upwards? Answer: 1. Utilizing GDP to quantify the prosperity of people in a given economy presents different impediments which make the system questionable with regards to the measuring of the ways of life. One reason why real GDP can't be utilized to gauge the nation's well-being is the way that it doesn't consider the leisure time. Relaxation time is a vital item which contributes a ton to the economic prosperity and performance of a person. Accordingly, keeping different variables consistent, the more leisure time we have, the happier we are. Another reason why the strategy is unreliable in measuring standards of living is that gross domestic product does not figure fundamental components, for example, air, and water contamination. (Coyle, 2014, p.76-119). Two economies of two different countries may have similar GDP, yet one contains contaminated water and air while the other economy doesn't have any contamination. The way of life between these economies will be distinctive, yet this won't be indicated in the real GDP. Real gross domestic product concentrates on products which pass through the markets and ignores those goods which are usually produced for subsistence purposes only. Subsistence farming is among the main economic activities which take place in under-developed and developed countries. Failure to include subsistence farming in the country's GDP implies that the well-being of that particular nation is low. 2. Seasonal unemployment is a type of unemployment which arises as a result of the changes in demand which occurs regularly in a given periods of the year. (Janoski, Luke, Oliver, 2014, p. 105-123). Examples of industries where this type of unemployment is experienced include tourism and farming. Structural unemployment happens because of the long-term reduction in the demand in a particular industry prompting to less opportunity as demand for labor reduces. The latest supplanting of robots with human labor in different assembling enterprises, for example, the car industry is a case of structural unemployment. Aside from the replacement of robots with human work, structural unemployment may likewise be accordingly of global rivalry brought by globalization and changes in relative comparative advantage. Cyclical unemployment is brought on by the absence of demand for the available products. It emerges when the economy of a given nation is below the required capacity. A good example is a point at which an economy encounters the recess period whereby the total demand will reduce leading to a reduction in the level of yield and negative economic development. Due to lack of demand for goods and services, companies usually produce a limited quantity of output. Less output means that the organization will earn less income and may prompt the company to lay off some of the employees to reduce various fixed expenses. Continuous transformation of various industries from labor to capital intensive and changes in economic phases such as boom and recession make unemployment to be unavoidable. 3. I agree with the statements that rise in the average cost of products and services prompts to increment in inflation. Inflation is defined as the rise in prices of commodities and services which leads to decrease in the purchasing power of the currency. From the definition, we can safely say that there is a positive correlation between inflation and the prices of goods and services. When the rate of inflation is high, the commodity prices also become high. Too much money in the economy means that a lot of cash is in the hands of the people. Having a lot of money means that individuals will either choose to spend the money or save. But due to low-interest income which individuals will get as a result of saving, many people will decide to spend the extra amount of money also known as discretionary income. Discretionary or disposable income is defined as the remnant of the individuals' basic salary after other deductions such as PAYE have been subtracted. (Rogers, Jalal, Boyd, 2008, p. 300). Since many consumers will choose to spend the disposable income, there will be an increase in demand for goods and services. The increase in demand will force the sellers and suppliers to increase in prices of the commodities and services as a measure to counter the inflating demand. The average prices of goods and services will increase or reduce based on the increase or decrease in the rate of inflation respectively. Therefore, we can conclude that, when the overall prices of commodities increases, inflation also increases. 4. The aggregate demand curve is defined as the sum of overall demand for final products and services in a given economy at a particular period. When the curve slopes downward, it implies that as the prices of the goods and services decrease, the level of output on the other hand increases. It also means that when the level of prices reduces, the level of national income increases. There are three main reasons why the curve slopes downwards. The reasons are Mundell-Fleming's exchange rate effect, Pigou's Wealth effect, and Keynes's interest rate effect. According to Mundell-Fleming's exchange rate effect, when the prices of products reduce, the interest rates also reduce. Reduction in interest rates may force the investors to withdraw their domestic investment and concentrate in foreign investment since domestic investment provides low-interest income. (Sparknotes, 2016, par. 4). Apart from an increase in foreign investment, there will be depreciation in the exchange rate and increas e in the net exports which will translate to increase in aggregate demand. The second reason is Pigou's Wealth effect. The nominal value of the currency is fixed, but the real value of money depends on the level of prices. Reduction in the level of prices leads to increase in the level of consumer consumption. High level of consumption leads to increase in aggregate demand. The third reason is Keynes's interest rate effect which postulates that reduction in the price level leads to a reduction in the level of interest rates and increase in investment which in turn increases the aggregate demand. 5. The long-run aggregate supply curve is defined as a graphical representation of the long-run relationship between the price and the output. It is a period which is efficient for companies to arrange various factors of production to meet the expected economic profits or losses. The LRAS curve is vertical since, in the long run, the quantity of goods and services generated relies on the technology, natural resources, labor, and capital present in an economy and not the price. Salaries and prices are highly flexible, and this means that when there's a change in the level of prices as a result of inflation, wages and other factors of production respond accordingly. For example, if the prices of commodities are doubled or reduced by half and the wages adjusted consequently, there will be no change and the economy will remain at full-employment. Short-run aggregate supply curve slopes upward because the supply curve is drawn based on a fixed nominal variable such as wage rate. In the short-run period, wages are fixed, and therefore, any rise in the prices leads to high profits due to increasing in output level. (Gans, 2011, p. 858). References Coyle, D. 2014. The annual report of both the companies was used to do the financial analysis and comment on the performance. This report would be useful to various stakeholders like investors, creditors and management. Even though the report captures most of the events of both companies for the said financial year, yet the stakeholders may completely be not dependent on the report alone for their decisions as the report possesses some limitations with respect to qualitative factors which have not been taken into consideration. Easyjet is the second largest airline that operates in Europe. The company has a fleet of 241 aircrafts and operates on 735 routes.(yahoo. Finance, 2016). The company is known for providing affordable flying for short haul distance. Other than flying the passengers, it also engages in leasing and trading of aircrafts. The Flybe UK segements offers passengers transportation services in the United Kingdom and also passengers transportation services from UK to the rest of Europe. The company has a fleet of 74 aircrafts. (yahoo.finance, 2016). The Flybe Aviation services indulges in providing aviation services like repair and maintenance, services to third party customers and overhaul services in Western Europe. The company is based in Exeter, UK. Financial Statement Analysis The financial analysis of a company can be carried with the help of ratios. A comparison of the above two companies for the year 2014-2015 has been done. The ratios can be dividend into five categories i.e. profitability, liquidity, capital structure, efficiency and market performance. Profitability Easyjet Plc Flybe Plc Particulars 2014 2015 2014 2015 Operating profit margin 12.8% 14.7% 0.2% -2.2% Net profit margin 9.9% 11.7% 1.3% -6.2% Return on assets 13.0% 14.3% 0.2% -2.3% Return on equity 20.7% 24.4% 4.1% -25.5% (Easyjet, 2015) (Flybe, 2015) Easyjet has an increasing trend in all the profitability ratios. The companys operating profit margin has increased to 14.7% in 2015. This is mainly due to an increase in revenue by 3.5% in 2015. The increase in revenue is on account of increase in passenger volumes and increase in price. The airline majorly operates in Western and Northern Europe which has a strong demand for airline given its rich and need based customers. With a strong economic growth, the demand for both personal and business travel increased resulting in higher revenue. Also due to its quality service and network, the airline has loyal customers. Another reason is a fall in operating costs due to a fall in fuel price which is the major cost contributor. Even the currency was stable resulting in low costs. Even though other cost pressures, the company mitigated the same with its previous savings. The return on asset increased by 1.3%. The total assets have increased in plant equipment as the company acquired 20 aircrafts in 2015 as part of its strategy to increase the network. Even though the total assets have increased, still there in an increase in the return due to an increased EBIT more than the increase in assets. The return on equity has increased by 4% as the profits available to shareholders have increased with no change in share capital. Flybe Plc has had a bad year in 2015. The company profits have turned into losses. This is as a result of a fall in revenue and an increase in costs. The company undertook a turnaround strategy in 2013 where it decided to become a regional airline as a result of which it has changed its fleet of aircrafts from expensive E-jets to more reasonable turboprops. The revenue fell in 2015 due to a fall in capacity. The cost has increased manifold including reasons like loan revaluation loss of 10 million, loss on discontinued operations of the Finland joint venture. The company still has 7 E-jets to be divested which have huge maintenance costs, thus draining the profits. The company has not been able to cash on the falling fuel prices as the fuel price is forward hedged by Flybe, thus current low prices do not impact them. Therefore all above reasons led to incurring losses for the company in 2015. The return on assets and return on equity have reduced significantly mainly due to falling p rofits. both total assets and equity have not changed much. Easyjet has a higher profitability as compared to Flybe. Liquidity Easyjet Plc Flybe Plc Particulars 2014 2015 2014 2015 Current ratio 0.89 0.72 1.41 1.20 (Easyjet, 2015) (Flybe, 2015) The current ratio of Easyjet has decreased in 2015 signifying low liquidity. Moreover the ratio is less than 1 which means the current assets are not sufficient to pay for the companys current obligations. The companys payables are much higher than its receivables and also it has increased borrowings in 2015 along with derivative financial instruments. Flybe has a reasonable liquidity above 1 in both the years. The current ratio has decreased in 2015 as the liabilities have increased whereas the current assets have not increased in the same proportion. Flybe has better short term liquidity. Efficiency Ratios Easyjet Plc Flybe Plc Particulars 2014 2015 2014 2015 Receivables turnover 22.6 22.7 7.2 5.8 Total asset turnover 1.01 0.97 1.13 1.03 (Easyjet, 2015) (Flybe, 2015) Easyjet has a impressive receivables turnover ratio which means the company is efficient in collecting its receivables on time and thus will not face any cash crunch. The company has a positive cash flow in 2015. The total assets turnover is equal to 1 has decreased further in 2015 which means the efficiency with which the assets are being used to generate sales has reduced. FLybe has a very low receivables turnover because receivables have increased and sales have decreased. This shows inefficient working capital management. However, the company has a better assets turnover ratio. Flybe is efficiently utilizing its assets to generate sales whereas Easyjet has a better working capital management. Capital Structure Easyjet Plc Flybe Plc Particulars 2014 2015 2014 2015 Debt ratio 0.52 0.53 0.65 0.75 Debt to equity ratio 1.1 1.1 1.8 3.0 (Easyjet, 2015) (Flybe, 2015) Easyjet has a low debt ratio which has remained unchanged in 2015. The company has low gearing with lower cost of funding and a higher operational flexibility. The company has a capital structure where equity and debt are in equal proportions. This makes the company less risky. Flybe has a higher debt and debt to equity ratio which means it has a riskier capital structure where there is more debt than owners funds in the companys funding. The debt ratio has increased in 2015 due to a higher increase in total liabilities than an increase in total assets. Most of companys assets have been financed through debt. The debt equity ratio has increased considerably from 1.8 to 3, this is because of a decrease in equity and an increase in total liabilities. There is no change in share capital; however the equity has decreased due an increase in deficit in retained earnings as the company is incurring consecutive losses in these years. Easyjet has a more stable capital structure. Market Performance Easyjet Plc Flybe Plc Particulars 2014 2015 2014 2015 EPS 114.5 139.1 10.2 -10.93 Dividend yield 3.42 3.06 0 0 Price/earnings ratio 12.43 12.77 12.89 -5.31 (LSE, 2016) The EPS of Easyjet has increased in 2015 due to an increase in return available for shareholders as there is no change in the issued capital. The dividend yield has remained more or less the same which means the company has a stable dividend payment policy. The company has an increasing PE ratio of 12.5 approx. This means the share price of the company has increased more than the increase in EPS. This shows positive sentiments of investors with respect to the shares of Easyjet making them a valuable investment. The increasing profit margins year on year have led to increase on the share price making it a sought after investment. Flybes EPS has become negative in 2015 due to losses incurred. There is no change in the share capital. The company has not paid dividends in the last two years, hence the dividend yield is 0 for both the years. The company has a good PE ratio in 2014 but the ratio has become negative in 2015 due to losses incurred which have resulted in a negative EPS. The companys share price has fallen to its lowest in 2015-16. (Strang, 2016). As a result the PE ratio has also fallen. Easyjet has a way better market performance even in a tough environment in the UK as a result of the Brexit vote. All airlines have suffered but since Easyjet is a strong competitor, the companys profits have fallen only to some extent in 2016. The market performance of Flybe is very poor with negative returns. However, since the company has completed the three year transformation strategy in 2016, it has become profit making from a loss making airline. The market sentiments are still negative. Performance Factors There may be various performance factors which may be taken into consideration to assess the overall performance of the airline. Easyjet Plc The financial performance of the company has been good in both 2014 and 2015. Other factors which have affected the companys performance are discussed below: a) Disruption in operations there was a disruption in operations in the year 2015 due to French ATC strike in April and a fire broke out at the Rome Fiumicino airport. As a result of this, the flights got delayed and caused inconvenience to the customers resulting in low customer satisfaction. (BBC, 2015) b) Constant currency there was a fall in the price of fuel during 2015 as a result of constant currency. The fall in fuel prices led to a decrease in operating costs and thus the profit margins of the company increased. Flybe Plc a) Three year transformation program The new CEO Saad Hammad in 2013, introduced a new transformation strategy for the company. The aim of the strategy was to place Flybe as a regional airline. As a result of this, the company has replaced its E-jets with turboprops. The company has been able to replace all its E-jets except seven ones remaining which are a big drain on profits, thus reducing the profits. The company has also recruited new employees in the company. Though the current financial performance of the company has been hindered, but it is believed that the company is now better aligned to its strategic objectives. (Flybe, 2015) b) Forward hedging the fuel prices have gone down but the company did not benefit from that because it has forward hedging on oil prices and as such the benefits will be achieved in the future. Thus the operating costs have increased. (Flybe, 2015) Conclusion From the above discussion, we see that Easyjet has a better overall financial performance as compared to Flybe group. From the investor point of view, Easyjet has a better profitability and market performance and a stable dividend payment policy thus maximizing returns for the shareholders. Flybe is not an attractive option for a potential investor as the company is making losses and has more debts than equity. The market performance is poor. From the creditor point of view, Easyjet has a better stability as it has a stable capital structure as compared to Flybe. From management point of view, efficiency ratios and liquidity ratios are important. Flybe has a better working capital management which means that the company may be on the right path to achieving its objectives as per its strategy. Easyjet has low liquidity. Summertime Essay Example For Students

Summertime Essay It was early dawn on a Friday morning, as the sun rises from the distant blue ocean we wait for daylight to breakout. My friend and I sat down on spot on the beach, as I focus closely at the surface of the waterfront the sand is very white, much like the winter snowflakes. As I look along the different points along the shore, the waves and ripples of the salty water crash upon various sections of the beach. These include a nudist section, a gay section, and a family section, I wasnt sure but there might have been a section reserved for nude, gay families. We will write a custom essay on Summertime specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now My friend and I unfolded our garden chairs and opened our cooler box in the family section of the beach. After putting on our sunglasses and lay on the sun block lotion, we popped open some cold beverages from a can. We then reclined back in our chairs to take in the clear, deep blue sky, the sea-green ocean, the red-hot sun and white sand. The pleasantly refreshing smell of the surf broke through the scent of the ocean mist. The cool breeze came towards us coming in off of the ocean water. The songs of the seagulls, and small children running about could be heard echoing around the beach. A few hours had past and we began to get restless, I immediately insisted that we abandon the area and move to another section of the beach. After about ten minutes of walking, we decided to rest as the scorching sizzling sun began to tear through the clouds. We sat down as I drove the palm of my hand through the white sandy beach, the sand grains were transparent like fine crystal grains. The nois e and activity of the family section of the beach was a distant blur to the east. We walked on the empty stretch of beach for another ten minutes until we had arrived. The twenty-minute walk had felt like a never-ending desert. We then sat back in our desired location absorbing the heat and ocean breeze. After another several hours of lounging and drinking on the beach, The air had gotten thick, moist, smelly and hot. It felt constricting and suffocating like being stuffed inside a giant kiln. The late afternoon blistering heat wave had past as sunset had almost arrived. As the sun was setting disappearing into the distance, the light began to darken. The colour of the white clouds became grayer, the sky began to look like the colour spectrum changing from one hue and tint to another. It had gradually become dark, the sun was no longer visible as the day drew to an end. Creative Writing
